Whomever (Whoever?) said, "No news is good news." That person is right most of the time, but not all of the time.
Which leads me to, "No Post is not Good News"..... meaning I had ALL of my photos downloaded off of my camera. With great hopes of getting some Halloween pictures posted for everyone...... when all of a sudden.....
This morning I was minding my own business, perusing facebook - when all of a sudden my left hand knocks my breakfast protein shake (which is another post all in itself) right onto my laptop. Before I know it the laptop is no longer functioning.
SO - it has already been sent off to Butler to be repaired. Poor me, no laptop for the rest of the week --- I'm typing from Dave's laptop. (Not a drink in sight in case you're curious.)
So....for all of you anxiously waiting the Austin & Felicity pictures --- it will have to wait just a bit longer.
This buckin' bronco "bronked off" this cowboy a time or two last night. I do have some better pictures on my real camera --- but, I won't be downloading those tonight.
Snickers really enjoyed barking at all of the trick-or-treaters coming to our door last night! We had quite a few of them ----we actually ran out of candy and had to shut off our light. A few of the favorites were: The Chipmunks; Twister Game Board; and a little boy dressed as Batman --- he was a favorite because he was quite clever at distracting us while he kept taking more and more candy bars out of our basket! We think he left with around 10 mini-candy bars.
After the tricks and treats were all passed out we headed over to a friends house for a costume party. We were dressed as Austin Powers & Felicity Shagwell. They were great costumes, and I will upload pictures in the near future. We were actually voted favorite costumes of the night! ... And there were a lot of great costumes!!
So - this time change really suits me... I love it! ..... AND, the preparation for Christmas begins!
Apparently this is a secret because I can tell you that I have never heard this information from any of the following people :my mother, grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law.... nope not a one of them have ever told me this secret!!

Guess what? You are supposed to let your eggs come to room temperature!! Who Knew? When I found this out today I thought of keeping this little rotten secret to myself, but - alas - I have decided to share this news with everyone. All 10 of you that are still reading this blog!! Yep, that is right - I'm such a sharing soul.
Here is the data on your room temperature eggs, If you'd like to learn more, I took this information from www.baking911.com :
WHAT ARE ROOM TEMPERATURE EGGS?: Some recipes call for adding eggs. Most of us use eggs right from the refrigerator. But, did you know they should be warmer than room temperature before being combined in a recipe? For these recipes, remove eggs from the refrigerator about 20 to 30 minutes before you use them or put them in a bowl of warm water while you assemble other ingredients. Dry them with a towel before cracking. (More).
WHY ARE ROOM TEMPERATURE EGGS SO IMPORTANT? A typical step in a buttercake recipe is to cream with fat and sugar and then add in the eggs, one at a time. This creates an emulsion. Fat and liquid by nature are unmixable, and the goal when mixing a recipe is to form a water-in-fat emulsion. A well emulsified cake batter, for example, should not be curdled or weeping liquid, which happens if cold eggs are introduced to a room temperature butter/sugar mixture. If the emulsion breaks, the batter will loose air cells. This results in a baked cake that is grainy or flat in texture, dry and flavorless, look uneven and may even sink.
So - Did you already know this? I have a feeling I am the only one who wasn't in on this little secret. Please don't be a rotten egg, share this information with everyone you know!
We get to hear all of the neighborhood happenings, now that Dave is El Presidente of HOA. (That is the Home Owner's Association for our neighborhood.)
I noticed as I was leaving for work today that we had a new message on our answering machine. It went something like this, "Hi Dave! This is Mr. Rogers I live over on Fruit Loop Cir. - I'm not sure if this is something the HOA would be concerned with, but we have a Muskrat that is building a condominium for him and some of his buddies on the pond behind our house. If you could give me a call back and let me know if this is something the HOA would be in charge of handling, that'd be great. Thanks!"
Since Dave didn't get this message before he headed to work, I wanted to be prompt and make sure that he knew about the neighborhood situation. So - I sent him an e-mail with the subject line, "Muskrat Love." Dave was enamored with my clever subject line..... but unfortunately I had to tell him that I didn't come up with it on my own -- it is actually a song title.
My first thoughts over this entire incident is that winter is coming!! I don't want them to tear down Muskrat Sam's condo! Where will he and Susie keep warm this winter?? I saw his condo, and it is coming along quite nicely....he has obviously put a lot of hard work into his condo. I will see if I can get a picture of the condo before (if) it gets condemned.

So, before I tell you about this picture - first you need to know a little bit of background information.
When I met Dave.... on a beautiful, magical evening in July.... he was living with two guys: Dary & Brenton. Brenton is on the right in this picture. They had a wonderful time living together in the glorious days of bachelorhood. (♫♫Glory days, Well they'll pass you by, Glory Days in the wink of a young girl's eyes♫♫)
Dave was the first of the three of them to get married. When Dary and Brenton found out that they'd be Ushers in our wedding, their very first question was, "Can we wear "Dumb & Dumber" Tuxedos?" Ummm... no.
Brenton was next to be married -- this past summer in Des Moines. And last, but not least, Dary was married the second weekend in September. When he pulled out the Tuxedos at the rehearsal....which everyone assumed would be standard black tuxedos...well, you can see what they actually got! Dary thought this was fabulous fun, especially since he is the last in the group to get married... he knows nobody will be able to seek revenge for this joke!
This is a picture of Dary & Brenton entering the reception and "re-enacting" a scene from "Dumb & Dumber". It was very funny - and take a close look at Daves expression, he is really really getting into the part. Brenton appears scared.
Friday: We hung out with some friends from Kellogg's in Kalamazoo! Good Times.
Saturday: 2nd Saturday -- Volunteer service through church. This week we volunteered with the Charitable Union to hand out coats to families with kids that couldn't afford new coats for this winter. It was SO cute to see the kids getting excited and wearing their new coats! A very rewarding way to spend your Saturday morning.
Then - some housework, and an afternoon $4 movie: Couples Retreat. It was very entertaining, we liked it. :) Vince Vaughn is one of Dave's favorites.
Sunday: Church, naps, magazines, work.
It was a nice weekend overall..... and now it is back to work!! If I weren't so sleepy this post would be full of more exciting details. But I apologize, this is all you're getting. :)

Have you heard of NieNie? I noticed on facebook that my Aunt Vera has been reading her blog for awhile, and that NieNie was going to be on Oprah. I have my DVR set to record Oprah...she usually has some pretty interesting topics/guests on - whether you agree/disagree with Oprah - you have to admit she has some interesting topics.
I was completely captivated by the story of NieNie...who is Actually StephaNIE NIElson, fairly famous blogger. I think she had been doing her blog for around two years when her and her husband were in a plane crash...barely survived, and spent months in intensive care. Her blog was well-known for her up-beat positive look on motherhood, marriage, being a full-time mom --- and how she creatively & inspiringly enjoyed that life. She's blogging again, and while LIFE has changed dramatically for her....she remains inspirational to the thousands that read her blog.
Blogging has really changed social culture --- it is possible to "know" someone, rather intimately... but not physically know them at all. I think it is a beautiful little culture. I'm captivated by real life.... I HAD to go to her blog. I wanted to know all about THEIR story. I wanted to read those entries --- the last four or five before everything completely changed for their family. One day life is normal, the next day it isn't. I wanted to know how is she doing now. How far have THEY come?
..... and think about the entries in our own lives and how far we have come.

Meanwhile, here on Mother Earth.... I drove through a small town today -- these 2 little boys were desperately trying to get the trucker in front of me to blow his horn. How did he not see them?? One of them was hanging out of the sun roof -- doing the universal symbol for "trucker, please honk your horn!" --- yet, he somehow missed them.
Well... I laid on my horn for them, and received two cute little grins! I do remember how exciting it was when you could get someone to honk their horn for you! .... granted, my horn was certainly not as exciting as the one the trucker could have given them.
It's the little things in life....
These were waiting for me when I arrived home from Impact this evening. Impact is the junior high group that I help with at church on Monday evenings. These beautiful roses are just because! :) Just because he is awesome!! And the cereal - I had to put the cereal in the picture...it is a brand new Kashi creation that I cannot wait to try in the morning. :)
Dilemma of the day for me? Take a chance on running out of gas or stop at a gas station in the boonies - the kind where you have to go inside to pay. The kind where you pay an extra six cents per gallon for the pleasure of walking inside their gas station/mini mart/liquor store/video rental....... SO - I pulled over and filled up. Ultimately isn't it better to pump gas in an unpleasurable location rather than be stuck without gas in that location? YES, I think so! I begin pumping gas and I try to switch the little lever down - you know the lever that holds the handle open for you - so that you do not have to squeeze the lever on the pump the entire time.... well, it is broken. Unfunctional. Somewhere between "Full Service" and fully functional "Self Service" this gas station was left behind.
Ah Well - It could have been snowing! ;)
I'm tired of the fluff.

It has been a cold, rainy weekend here in Michigan... very fall-like! We have done a lot of catching up on work-work, house-work, and shopping-work.
Okay...so shopping isn't really work, depending on how you like or dislike shopping. Really, there wasn't a lot of shopping going on.... but, I decided it was time to get out my "fall" decorations. We recently bought a new coffee table for our living room - and I certainly didn't want to scratch it, so I needed to buy a "fall time" table runner to put my decorations on! It was on sale at Pier 1 - $15.96. What a steal! Wish I had a picture to show you... but I spent way to much time changing the blog layout and header to something simpler and aesthetically pleasing - so yes, I spent way too much time on that to download a picture for you. Apologies.
Dave and I have had dueling laptops in the dining room all afternoon working on work needs. It is budgeting season for Dave. You wouldn't believe the number of budgets, and re-budgeting this man does! ...and it is a new quarter for me! I'm happy about that - it is not quite so stressful at the beginning of a new quarter. If you are thinking I should "be busier" at the beginning of the new quarter, and then maybe the end of my quarter wouldn't be so stressful -- if this thought crossed your mind, let me guess -you've never been in sales. No matter how busy you are the last month, last week, last day of the quarter....always something YOU have to get done or face DEATH. Okay, just kidding - that is a little dramatic.
We've been busy with house work. Dave vacuumed for me! I can get the entire house cleaned, and dusted in the amount of time it takes to vaccum every room... so, it works out perfectly. The pool was sadly closed this weekend, and even more sad it hasn't been warm enough in the last 45 days to even slip a toe into the icy water. Most Michigan residents feel this was the year of no summer.
This is about all for our weekend excitement --- oh yes, we did go see a $4 matinee yesterday. "The Invention of Lying" We do not recommend spending your time or money on this movie. We'll pick better next time. :)

In light of my absence from blogging, I actually have a "Guest Post" - please let me know if you too would like to write a guest post. It is indeed hard to have your own blog and write posts all the time - but you might have something or some ideas you'd like to post...and....well, I'd let YOU be a guest blogger. Here we are...after all, did you know that 20% of the World's fresh water was in one lake? :
So the blog has become quite dormant recently. In an attempt to help you out, I thought I would do as I suggested some time ago, and hit the random article generator on wikipedia. First up was Sani-Flush, which wasn't much of an article, and I don't have any opinions on that. Next was an English painter (Charles Lucy). Again, not much of an article, and what little was there did nothing for me. Next was Darren Sheridan. He seems to be a pretty interesting fellow, obviously really loves playing the soccer. I was more intrigued by the picture, where I couldn't tell if he was happy, annoyed, or what. Maybe the sun was just in his eyes. Anyway, good picture. The next was the 108th meridian east. I was surprised to get that one <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/108th_meridian_east>. Then you look at it, and it tells you what all it goes through, and I was intrigued. First up, it goes through Russia, then something called the Khatanga Gulf, which I had never heard of, and now I have. There doesn't appear to be much going on there, as it's normally covered in ice, but there is a penal colony looking over it. Then it goes back into Russia, where it passes through Lake Baikal.
Lake Baikal has always fascinated me. I'm not entirely sure why, but I remember reading about how it was the deepest lake in the world was, and that it holds more water than all the great lakes combined seemed insane. And its own wikipedia page is pretty good.
The 108th then passes on south and eventually goes through Java, which seems nice. When it hits Antarctica, it goes through a section claimed by Australia. I had thought that everybody said "hands off" on Antarctica at the UN or something, so I was surprised to see that, but I didn't investigate further. Maybe I was thinking of the moon.

Something that Michiganders do quite frequently on the weekends during the summer is to head up north. It is almost obnoxious when someone tells you this is what they are doing for the weekend - after all...it could be one of a thousand different locations they are heading to.....why not just say where you are going for the weekend?
So - that is what we are doing today... both took the day off, and are heading up to Grand Traverse State Park to do some camping..... was supposed to also be boating, but we decided to leave it home. which happen to be the second part of this post......
Something you don't want to hear in your neck of the woods (southern MI) when you are heading further north for a weekend is the weather man saying, "Fall-like Temperatures in July." Perfect. Soooo... I've packed up a lot of warm clothes - and I know it will be a fun, memorable time either way. More to follow up return.

I hit my first, that I can remember, GRAND SLAM tonight, baby!! It was exciting. No pressure when I got up to bat, 2 outs (?I think?) , bases loaded, down by 2 runs...... and the umpire even comments to me about the situation. ....And even down to the last second as I ran home and the ball was being thrown back in.

These two guys are who you can thank for the blog yesterday...they both sent me messages saying they were not going to talk to me until I started blogging again.... so I promised that I would. wom is writing a book, I'm sure it will be a best seller in the near future. My mom used to work with wom, and she always says that he was so nice! And Craig - he collects comic books...he finally got a cell phone last year (blackberry!)... but we are still working on a new car. This is a picture from the wedding we attended a few weeks ago. 
Michael Jackson died today.... King of Pop... so many hits. Here is one he co-wrote in 1985... I remember watching this.

I.E.... are most of their followers Christian parents that just won't be buying these videos anymore? I think it is interesting.

If you have ever asked a Michigander where they are from in Michigan - you've likely seen this image.
Yep - our state is shaped like a mitten! It's pretty cool actually - and I know the rest of you are likely to be secretly jealous of this tool.
I don't know of any other state that actually does this. I know in Illinois, when asked this question - I'd simply say, "central Illinois"..... or the usual assumption that if you're from IL you are from Chicago... so, you're always saying, nooo - not Chicago area.
When we first moved here our realtor told us that we'd see everyone doing this. We kind of chuckled and just assumed it was her thing.... it wasn't!! Everybody here does it, and we do it now!
When we lived in PA we picked up a strange voice inflection that you use when asking a question....we've actually grown out of that..... However, I'm sure we'll always use the Michigan map....it's just that cool!
So - we won our softball game tonight!! However, our umpire was not very good.
I'll just tell you a little short story that my team was amused by. So - in MI softball - they don't use the mats like they do in IL..... if the ball lands on the mat it is a strike. Here they just have imaginary mats.
So - our umpire tonight had the biggest strike zone you can imagine for slowpitch softball. He proceeded to call me out (a strike out!) while looking at the last pitch. ---Mind you, every pitch at this "at bat" was a ball with any other umpire. It was kind of a moist evening, so I could see exactly where the the last pitch had landed. At his call I proceeded to stick my bat in the dirt on the spot where the ball had landed.... I then turned around to him and said, "You call that a strike?" He said yes...... soooo then I took my bat and drew the imaginary mat in the dirt for him, so that he wouldn't have any future issues seeing where the strike zone was located. I then walked (grouchily) back to the dugout. Each "at bat" after that - there were zero strikes called on me!!! Now, I will admit that I swung more liberally --- but, I also walked the very next at bat.
I wouldn't do this with every umpire.... but he was pretty friendly at previous games...so, I thought I could probably get away with the arguing. Plus, it's rec softball - you just can't let yourself get walked all over! Right?!? :)
Two of my old friends from Tate & Lyle got married this past weekend.... we had a great time seeing a lot of friends that we haven't been able to hang out with for quite a while.
Some of my favorite parts of the wedding/reception:
1. The Children's Choir - Rita's nieces and nephews sang as the parents and grandparents were seated - it was adorable.
2. The overs on tears during the ceremony by Brandon.
3. The basketball huddle for the bridal party introduction.
4. The bouquet toss, song: If you liked it, then you shoulda put a ring on it.
5. Ummm- the amazing buttercream icing on the amazing cake... that we plotted to "find" extras for the rest of the evening. (okay, we considered "stealing" extras)
6. The dancing....and so much more!

There is a saying that goes something like "showing up is half the battle" or something like that. This could not have been more true tonight. I have been a board member of our homeowners association for the past year. Tonight we had elections for officer positions and I was elected President, mainly because I couldn't think of a good excuse fast enough to take my name off of the list. It was interesting to me that the other members who were actually qualified to do this mysteriously didn't show up. One guy that did show up and would have been a logical choice had a run-in with the shower curtain in the bathroom and completely pulled the shower curtain rod out of the wall as he fell into the bathtub during a bathroom break effectively disqualifying himself from the running. It was awkward at the time, but may have been a brilliant strategy to not get elected! As you can see I'm not thrilled with the whole situation, but the silver lining is I'm sure I'll have some funny stories to share about our whiny neighbors. -Dave
So - if you read the last post you know that we went to Lafayette, IN this weekend for a wedding. Two of my old friends from Tate & Lyle got married - it was a beautiful and fun wedding - I have several pictures that I can share .... just as soon as I get them downloaded!
BUT - for tonight, I have a couple of fun pictures.... just as we arrived in Lafayette we were sitting at a stop light when I heard some bickering off to the right. I look over to see this guy bickering with some ladies that were on their own bikes:

went trailing again last night, and no injuries! Thank goodness!! Snickers came along and had a wonderful time. After that we rented "Gran Torino"... And popped some popcorn! Great movie, we definitely recommend it!
Just wanted to let those concerned know that the knee appears to be fine. I iced and elevated it last night....and considered getting it checked out today, however - I'm not much for going to the doctor, so I didn't.
It really hasn't been very painful today, and I even played softball!! A Double, and 4 Singles ---- so, I think the old knee is going to make it!!
Sooo..... the Poll: WOULD YOU OR WOULDN'T YOU??
I have a friend that had those very things happen to her. She had eaten one of those Pizza Loafs for dinner, and about 1/3 of it was on a plate with used ranch dressing near the sink --- when a friend (girl) came walking out onto her porch eating it! This is not a "been friends with you for 15 years" kind of friend. SO - it was shocking. And then upon completing the pizza asked if they were going to eat their leftover Mexican in the refrigerator. [SO, not only did she see leftover boxes, but even went so far as to open them and see what was inside.]
I agreed with my friend that this was rather shocking behavior. It seems most people wouldn't eat off of the pizza loaf... but I also would not open up leftover boxes in a friends refrigerator, esp a friend that I had known less than a year.
Soooo - that is the story! Isn't that funny?!?! If you voted that you would do one of these things, I invite you to leave a comment and explain yourself!
It's a good thing Al Gore and the global warming camp changed their term to "climate change" because it is definitely not getting warmer in Michigan! Today is June 9th and we still have not turned on our air conditioner! In fact, we have the heat on tonight because we left the windows open today and it was 64 degrees in the house when we got home from work! It froze last week in northern Michigan and it's not supposed to get above 74 in the 10 day forecast!
I'm not nearly as interesting as Jill's blogs but I am filling in tonight as poor Jill had an accident on the mountain bike today and we think she may have torn her lateral meniscus (that's what Dr. Google says anyway!) She has "water on the knee" so hopefully it's not as bad as it looks. More to come.... -Dave

This picture shows huge progress over a couple days ago when the pool looked more like a lake. We came home from work one day and on our front step was a flyer stating "Looking for Someone to Clean Your Pool?" Maybe it was a hint from one of our neighbors. Ha. Only Kidding..... but, the pool is now on it's way to swim-worthy title.
It hasn't been warm enough to even turn on an air-conditioner here in MI, so we haven't been in much of a hurry to get it opened up this year.
Here is reason #2 to come visit us in Michigan.

I drove by a trucker today that had this on the back of his truck, "If it weren't for truckers you'd be homeless, hungry, and naked." I pondered this for a bit, and decided he was right. I especially feel sorry for the truckers here in Michigan in the winter ---- most drivers have no respect for what a big giant truck could do to their tiny car with added risks such as snow and ice on the road. Anyway - I thought of that song and that movie when I read this....it is a good 'ole truckin' movie. :)
Another embarrassing moment and random song that I had in my head yesterday was "Mustang Sally". I was waiting in an exam room of one of my clinics for the office manager...it is a mixed animal practice and on one of the walls of the exam room were some pictures of horses. One of which, of course, was a Mustang. Now, in my head, I thought it would be at least a 10 minute wait. I had noticed that they were finishing up a surgery in the other room. SO, of course, I began to sing "Mustang Sally", OUTLOUD. Just then, as you can guess - the doctor rounded the corner...face to face with my silly singing. It was a little embarrassing.
So - I thought you all might enjoy these moments. If you've known me very long, you know that everything I see and read makes me think of song. :)
This is Dave again....gotta give Jill a break from her blogging blitz! I remember growing up as kid that we a had book entitled "Could Have Been Worse." It was about this poor guy that had all this terrible stuff happen to him, and after each tragic episode he would always say, "could have been worse!" My mom would go into her uncontrollable laughing spells that we loved so much as she would read it to us. It wouldn't be long before she would quote it back to us kids if we started complaining.
Tonight Jill and I went mountain biking out at Fort Custer with our friends Nick and Angie. Jill and I had been out last weekend and had taken the "yellow" trail which is the easiest one. We figured it was time to try out the "green" trail tonight which is the intermediate trail.
Everything was going fine and we were enjoying the added technical difficulty that the green trail offered until I had a little accident. I was in the lead and we came around a blind corner that dropped off very steeply and broke sharply to the right. There were also 2 logs built across the path to help stop erosion that had to jump over. I was going too fast for such terrain and ended up running off the path and flipping head first over my handle bars and landing head first like I was diving. (the slang word for this is hebb....ie, Dave had a total hebb on the trail today). My brother Chris did a lot of mountain biking in high school and he had better term for this but I can't remember what it was. I miss him and wish I could just pick up the phone and ask!
So back to my story my crash could have been worse! As you will see in the picture below the strap on my helmet left a perfectly round contusion on my neck....kinda like a cross between ring worm and a hickey. Should make for some interesting conversations next week in KC as I will be meeting all my suppliers. I'll just tell them it's contagious....
..... is Folgers in your cup!! I bet you could finish that line on your own, huh? The Folgers Jingle must be one of the best known TV Jingles in commercial history. Can you think of one that is better known? If so, please leave a comment.
I've been watching the following Folgers commercial lately - it seems to be on a lot in the mornings while we get ready for work. (We typically watch the Today Show while getting ready in the mornings.) It really does inspire me to 1. Drink Coffee, and 2. Take up Riverdancing!! I doubt that I ever do - but it just looks so FUN! (As if I need another hobby!?!) Here is the commercial along with three others that I either remember, or think are fabulous. I will label them A. Riverdance; B: Rockapella; C: Christmas Homecoming; D: Millers Morning (just for Dave my former milling man!) ...... Please vote in the poll on the right!!!!! Dave does drink coffee every morning by the way, I don't think it started when he became a miller, though..... ? Maybe he can blog about that next!

So, here it is nearly 11pm, and I was trying to think, what could I blog about? We had a nice win tonight at Co-Ed Softball.... took my camera, and forgot to take pictures!!! I have my first church league ladies game tomorrow night!!
I want to wish all of our friends and family that have served, and/or are serving in our Military - a big Thank-You, and Happy Memorial Day.
